Hi everyone. I just joined this site yesterday. I was searching for sites on reels and how to trick them out and stumbled across this site. I started seeing all the help that Alan had posted on reel repair and I as blown away. I even told my wife " this guy is doing a great service, what a great guy". Then I started reading random posts and I just couldn't believe how friendly and helpful people were being to each other. It gave me faith in humanity again. I have been to and joined other sites where there is so much hostility that I just try and get the info I'm looking for and run away as fast as I can. I can see myself being a regular visitor here and learning a ton of information. Thank you for accepting me as a member but even more thank you for having/maintaining a site with such great people.
That being said...... please forgive my computer/tech ignorance. I'm sure you'll understand what I mean as time goes by. LOL I'm not even sure I'm posting my introduction email in the right place? Oh well, like I said you'll understand. haha

Thank you Alan, and thank you for being so selfless. You truly are a rare breed in today's times. I just posted (i'm not sure if it was in the right place) "looking for drag parts for a Daiwa ST9070" I know it's a long shot but meh it never hurts to ask. LOL

ok, this is not good. you've got yourself a bottom drag reel. i worked on one, years ago, i only had penn drag washers to work with and they were too thick. you now have carbontex drags available, so your chances of success are greatly improved. now, the cynic would say that ten times zero is still zero. the realist would caution you. these reels are "straight in, straight out," but bottom drag spinners are particularly miserable to work on. you will need to carefully disassemble your reel, carefully measure the drag washers, carefully reassemble the reel, order drag washers from smoothdrag.com, then go back in, switch out the drag washers and put it all back together. i would recommend not leaving this reel disassembled. after a week, even i wouldn't remember how to put it back together again!

Dawn should have the drag washers at smooth-drag.
This is a perfect example of a rear drag spinner with too many parts for no reason.
Then, on top of that -- the drag discs are discontinued.
If you take the schematic -- blow it up -- then just replace the (4) drag washers with thin carbontex, lightly greased with Cal's -- you will be fine. The rest of the metal drag stack is likely fine with just a clean up.

Oh and thank you for linking the schematics, it would have taken me hours to find mine. You are so right Alan when it comes to the sequence of reassembly. I had to disassemble this reel after every trip because for some reason the drag area would always capture water and if you didn't disassemble the drag and rinse it out after every trip it would corrode. I would usually just have a tag wire that I would put everything on in the same sequence it came off. But......... when I couldn't find the parts it kinda sat there for oh about 10 years and got lost........ I blame myself. LOL
