Title: Daiwa Saltist LD35 2-Speed Video Tutorial
Post by: ReelSpeed on February 11, 2011, 06:06:40 AM
Here is another video tutorial on a Daiwa Saltist LD35 reel. Thanks Ray for dropping the reel off! Again, I am working on getting better on the video side of things.. still get tongue tied and forget part names while I am thinking about the next step. Anyway, hopefully this is helpful and I will continue to work on getting better. I would appreciate any feedback!
I will include the links in this post, but I should be able to embed the videos in the next post.
Here is a schematic to the 20&30 series... should be close: http://www.daiwa.com/PartsDiagram/PartsDiagram/STTLD20-2SPD-LD30-2SPD.pdf (http://www.daiwa.com/PartsDiagram/PartsDiagram/STTLD20-2SPD-LD30-2SPD.pdf)

That is really cool. Takes time and patience. One of I've got plenty of and the other is in short supply.

Do you leave the bearing shields off? Have you ever used molykote dry spray lubricant? Thanks.

Thank you for the tutorial.
I have to take mine apart to see what is causing the drag to ramp up from nothing to almost spool lock. I took the reel out a month ago and hooked a bluefin tuna and lost it was the reel went from no drag to almost stupid drag.
Do you know what would possibly cause that?

Asking the silly question perhaps but did you have the preset wound right in?

Yes and took it apart to look at the cam a few times on the boat seeing if it wasn't sitting right.

Do you know if deckhand or yourself adjusted the drag tension knob for setting drag during the fight? Outside of these reels reels being a single dog the reels are pretty straight forward. They have Japanese ezo bearings which are top quality and carbon drag which is I believe glued on to side of spool same as an Avet. Daiwa drag seem to be very smooth in engagement and during the battle.

No drag adjustment with the tension knob during the fight. This is a weird one I guess I will take it apart using the tutorial. :)

Could be your drag cam was placed in the wrong position?

Yeah I didn't wanna sound dumb or accuse harddrive of missing something obvious, but my immediate thought was the cam might be upside down.

No. It only sits one way correctly. That much I know. Well it seems to not be a know issue. I guess it's take apart time. I was just trying to do some recon before the operation. ;D
Hard drive if you decide to take the reel apart again follow the tutorial video very carefully. Sometimes it takes a few times or more of disassembly to see what's really going on . Good luck
