Title: Torium 30 tight spool "DONE"
Post by: Delflein on March 03, 2016, 10:26:38 PM
Just serviced my torium 30's. Followed Mark Mayo's tutorial (great tool). 3 out of 4 work perfect. 1 seems to have a spool that feels tight or sticky(if that makes sense). Not rubbing on anything but doesn't spin as smooth and freely as the others. Took it apart several times with no changes. Any tips or suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

The parts affecting the spool are the 2 spool bearings, the pinion gear, and the tension adjustment on the handle side. That's the only friction points in that reel. I would double check the bearings and where the spool shaft goes thru the pinion gear.

Keith pointed it out. It was the tension knob (tightened down). Didn't occur to me to check it. Thanks for the help!!!!

Great job! On any reel have that handle side adjustment either loose or off when putting the spool back in and tightening the screws. On reels like yours (Torium) I leave it off and put in a couple drops of oil.
