Title: Penn 78 question?
Post by: STRIPER LOU on March 09, 2016, 01:06:27 PM
Hi All, picked up a bunch of old reels from and estate the other day. One was a Penn 78. Looks very similar to an 85 but no star drag. It has the speckle finish and is in remarkably great shape. Looks like its spent most of its life on a shelf.
Is it worth anything at all and what's with the no star drag. Is this what they call a knuckle buster? Any idea when it was made?
Thanks,  ..  Lou

They aren't worth much Lou. I have a few of the knuckle busters. I got these from Bucktail a while back. AKA Bob at NJ Saltwater Tackle.
Two 77 Sea Hawks, a 78 Sea Scamp, A 79 Sea mate and an 85 Sea Boy.
The 78 and 79 have the black and brown marbled plates. They look look in great shape. They were made from the 50's to the 80's.
