One man's junk is another man's treasure. Picked up two very crusty 9/0. After a long soak in white vinegar, scrubbing, and a good servicing. Life is back in the reels. I was surprised to find that both reels had one piece spools. They are not beauty queens. A wise man once said the fish don't know how pretty the reel is they just know they are caught. Thank everyone for such a wonderful site.

Wow, looks like they cleaned up nice; your files are a little small, it's hard to see details. Post up pics of what you catch with them.

IMO,
The 9/0 has always been one of the most versatile and effective Penn reels for most offshore use.
Only weak links would be the factory stand and posts -- factory drag washers need to be tossed, and replaced with greased CFs -- plus it needs an aluminum spool.
There are many upgrades costing many dollars -- but IMO, just a solid frame & aluminum spool & proper drags will make these nearly bulletproof.
No frame twist, and no damage to the spool from HD drag settings or braid -- smooth at all drag settings from lightest to full lock-down.
Nice job!

Great Work!
One of my Favorites.
Nice job 8) Was actually looking for one on ebay today, did a quick stop at Scott's Bait and Tackle to check what was the parts availability for that reel and was surprise to find only 3 parts not manufactured any longer, parts that can be found very easy elsewhere
I love Penn's 8)
Marc..
Good job sharkman, now go put it to the test.
