Title: 501 Spool
Post by: Shark Hunter on March 25, 2016, 09:30:05 PM
I recently purchased a Newell 501 spool.
The problem is the clicker side has this squared off piece instead of the gear for the clicker. What do I have?
Is this only for a Newell?

Odd isn't, I have only seen this on Newell spool. What kind of a clicking sound does it make?

Marc..

It doesn't work with a stock penn sideplate.
Whether is a 506 or a 501 narrow.

Daron --

Randy from VO will know for sure what is needed -- and an ID on types of reels and bearings.

Best,

Fred

I will await his reply Fred.
I recently bought a 500 with an ss sleeve and upgraded drag from a member.
Plans were to do a quick turnaround into a 501.
I just don't understand what that spool is for with the squared off end that should be a ratchet gear for the clicker.

Hi
not sure why the clicker gear is square but it's the one I have to use with my accu-plates w/ big magnets. I get mine from Randy.

Daron,

Newell made his Penn spools with both the standard Penn-style clicker wheel and that hexagonal clicker wheel.  l have never had a clicker problem using either style.  Your spool should work fine in your stock 501 (a 501 spool will not work in a 506 because the 506 spool has a much longer drive shaft).  What is the problem?

I would be surprise if it fit, compared to a peen spool that square looking thing sticks out a lot

There's one for a squidder, check how it sticks out

Edit: I just check a penn squidder spool and it sticks out like that  ::)

Randy,
I thank you for your reply.
I will slap that baby in there and see.
I just slid in that jigmaster like it was, and I thought there was a problem.
You guys are the best.

Daron I have some nice rings if you want some.

Also some NOS cross bars if the length is right. Just let me know the width.
