Title: Balzer AT16 - Customer needs A/R repair
Post by: mizmo67 on March 28, 2016, 02:27:11 PM
Hi Guys,

We had a customer contact us looking for an A/R repair on one of these.
We have no parts source and no background.

German reel Balzer AT16

Anyone IN HERE who DOES work on them? *** EDIT *** because the P&S Authorize Reps DON'T

If so, I'd like to send the customer on to you?

Please let me know, thanks!
~Mo

He tried them already.

They said they don't do the repairs.

Nice, huh? They need to update their website.

Balzer is just re-branded Omoto.

The AT16, I'm fairly sure, is just an Omoto Poseidon S16-2

You could try contacting Omoto directly, they're actually fairly responsive.

Thanks for trying, Lou!

Boon, that's interesting. I'd never heard of either company before this.

I'll see if that helps him?
Thanks!

They are a pretty big manufacturer of reels out of Taiwan, they rebrand as a few other things including Qualia and Pelagic Hypa.

They are decent quality reels for a good price.
I haven't looked inside the S series reels but the smaller VS10 is very well built.

What's wrong with the AR on his?

You can email them on omoto@omoto.com.tw, dunno how helpful they will be as it's not Omoto branded but if you just need schematics and you're willing to pay for parts they should be fine.

Here's the problem he's describing
Could be he's got it set wrong, or he damaged it first trip out.
I don't have enough information:
QuoteIt might just be the way I am setting the drag since it was only its second trip out but every time I set the drag to a setting it gives and spins backwards.

These reels have a very simple and robust AR, it's just a sprung double dog arrangement on the right side plate onto a ratchet gear, no fancy AR bearing or anything like that.
If I had to take a guess, I'd bet they've had the sideplate off it and the dogs haven't gone back in the right place.

EDIT: Is it possible he's just not setting a meaningful amount of preset on the drag?

I'm staring at a picture of the reel online thinking the same thing myself.

Two trips out, if he hasn't had it apart, and I don't think he has..how much damage can it have taken?

It's got to be in the preset...

I agree...going to ask him to tinker with it.
