I'm working on another Avet. I've seen an issue on a few of these reels. When the reel is tilted to the side a bit, the spool rubs. It only does it in freespool. Anyone know how to correct the issue?
Is it a shimming issue? Bent spool shaft perhaps? Do the belleville washers compress and wear out?
Which Avet reel are you working on? The reason I ask is because most times when a spool starts rubbing on Avet's after a service and not before is due to the belleville washers are not in the correct order. Yes belleville washers can wear out but if before the service there was no rubbing or if someone was into the reel before you, the washers could of been put back in the wrong order.
I have a few Avet's of different sizes and the belleville washer stack are not the same across the board. I'd check that the washers are stacked right first and yes that means breaking down the reel almost all the way and it's a pain but thats where you should start to look.
An example of the different belleville washer stack can be seen in the SX and MX line go like this (()), the JX and LX ))(()), the HX's back to (()) as well as the 30's and 50's
I have played around with the belleville washers in my Avets trying to change the drag curve without any luck and always went back to the stock config.
If the belleville washers are correct and there is not a blown out pinion bearing, which you should of noticed before the service, check and make sure the spool bearing, spool spring washers, spool spring, break bearing and break disk are seated correctly.

Hi, thanks for the tips.
The reel is an SX 5.3 MC.
The reel was rubbing before I took it apart. Although, the owner of the reel did take it apart. He couldn't get it back together correctly and gave it to me to work on. So it is possible he rearranged the bellevilles. I'll check it out now. I don't mind taking her apart.
The pinon bearing felt okay surprisingly. I've done a few of these reels and I keep replacing those bearings.
The bearings positioned between the drag plate and in the spool (two small ones) are shot. I ordered new ones. They are en route. The spring that goes between them was corroded. I ordered a new one of those too. The two little metal washers were in there.
I wanted to update this thread.
I got parts for this Avet in the mail the other day. Took her apart again. Replaced the spool bearing because it felt a bit gritty. I also replaced the spool spring because it looked a little compressed. Spool was still rubbing after I reassembled the reel but it sounded smoother with the new bearing.
I took it apart again and looked at the belleville washers. They were arranged correctly. I swapped them with new ones and the reel went back to feeling like new again. No rubbing, perfect free spool.
Wanted to put the info out there in case anyone else is experiencing this issue.
