Title: Penn 50tw drag
Post by: Saltyrick on February 24, 2011, 12:26:50 PM
Alan - I took apart a 50TW for a cleaning last night. My qiestion is about the drag. At what point do you replace the drag washer rather than just cleaning it? I attached a photo of the drag.....I may just try to clean and then grease. Any thoughts? Thx

from what i can see the drag look's ok.wipe on some cal's and wipe off the excess and you should be good to go.

yeah, but parts of it look raised.  bottom line is that grease is cheaper than a new drag washer.  pack in a bunch of grease onto the surface and into the edges, then wipe off all the excess.  if it's smooth enough, call it done.  if it's not perfect and it has to be, get a new drag.  chances are it will be smoother at higher drag ranges.  alan
