I got an email today with a picture attached. There are a few reels that I've never seen before. Some look like vintage fly reels. You guys see anything interesting?
Is that one on the bottom an old Seaford?
The reel at bottom right looks more like a Lawrence reel. Definitely not a Senator and the other reel is not a Penn or Sea Ford either . The handle knob is not Penn and the foot is attached to the cross bars only.
Thanks Superhook.
I may take a drive up north to check them out.
Those fly reels look interesting.
I have that same fly reel, the auto retrieve 2nd from left on top. Belonged to my grandfather. Great little reel
I haven't been into it in about 40 years but I had it working at one time. Not worth a lot I terms of market value but still a great reel.
Thanks for the info. I don't have any fly gear nor do I know how to fly fish. I would like to learn though. Might be a good starter reel.
Auto retrieve is not a good starter reel, you need to learn to pile your line up at your feet and cast and strip.
It isn't any harder than bait casting or any other kind of fishing, it just takes a bit of practice to get the feel of it. As a tip I would recommend anyone learning to cast fly line to use the cheapest flies you can get your hands on until you get to the point where you don't bull whip them off your leader every other cast! They can get expensive! I learned 40 yrs ago with a cheap setup, it was a fenwick 9' rod and a Canadian Olympic reel and a scientific anglers double taper 7-8 wt line. I still have the setup, still use it and it still functions perfectly. I don't think I paid 80.00 for the total setup.
3rd from left on top, and left on on bottom appear to be Martins, the brown one may be anecessary Abbey&Imbrey trade reel, but the foot looks wrong.. maybe a Pflueger or Montague.. either way it is not likely very valuable... the raised pillar skeleton reels may be Pennels, bottom right appears to be the Lawerence 295, a Squidder copy (I am actually looking for one to go with my box). The automatic fly reel is likely a Martin, with the diamond marking may be a trade reel? Would need a closer look at the top right one toof ID properly but it is likely a Montague or Pflueger (it would be cool if it was a Shakespeare).
Mostly guesses, but none appear to be particularly valuable.
Thanks for the detailed answer. I'm waiting to hear back about a price.
If I buy the lot, I'll send you that reel.
