Title: Sideplate screws on 50TW - what thread?
Post by: Jason Groombridge on May 17, 2016, 11:51:45 PM
G'day All,

Can anyone tell me the thread size of the sideplate screws on an International II 50TW? I just want to clean the threads up with a tap before I assemble the reel again.

Cheers

Jason

OK, I suspect it might be an 8-32. I found some specs for UNC/UNF threads and an #8 should be 0.164 major diameter. The sideplate screws I have measure 0.162 so I reckon that's right. I think I better buy myself some thread pitch guages so I can determine the pitch and then all should be good.

Cheers

That sounds right.  I meant to check last night, but forgot.

Thanks John,

I've ordered a thread pitch gauge to confirm it. Needed one anyway for my lathe work so it won't be wasted.

I'v never seen a pitch gauge.  But now that you reminded me, I just checked..

I got a 8-32

*Measured: 140/1000" minor diameter
                   160/1000" major diameter

*I think?

G'day John,

Thanks for that.

Here is a thread pitch gauge. It's basically a set of leaves with teeth that match a certain thread pitch. Just hold up the leaf against the screw thread to see which one matches.
