Title: Newly acquired Shimano Sahara's
Post by: Robbr on March 07, 2011, 03:38:18 AM
My neighbor just basically gave me 4 Sahara's and rods (4 for $50). He's military and making the move to Yuma AZ and didn't want to take them. The rods are Bass Pro that I think I'll have re-wrapped. The reels are in great shape. The drags a fairly smooth, there doesnt seem to be any backlash in the handles and the antireverse is solid. My question is should I try to upgrade the drags? I was thinking about getting some carbonex from smoothdrag and making new ones. Or, do you guys feel I should just use them till they die naturally? I've got plent of inshore tackle so it's not a big issue.

replace the drag washers.  it's three small ones on top.  quick and easy.  you can probably use penn ht-100 #6-155's.  let me know if you need some.  check against this list after you measure yours.

Thanks Alan. I'll open them up tomorrow and get the washers measured.
