Title: Shimano Torium 20HG
Post by: davidk on July 01, 2016, 11:43:41 PM
Got one as a gift and found that the reel didn't freespool well. Drag and cast control are backed off. Took it apart and cleaned/oiled the bearings thinking that would be the solution. Wrong. When the reel is in free spool and I turn the handle, there is a slight amount of drag as the spool turns. I'm sure someone else has run into this problem but it's a first for me. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. I'm going to check the pinion gear to make sure it rides the yoke freely but your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

maybe the spool shaft sticking inside the pinion gear?

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Could that be caused by a lot of grease? I'll check that when I get home. On another note, you think they'd use slightly larger screws. These are so small, I'm a little hesitant to put much torque on them.

Degrease the inside of the pinion and the spool arbor. That'll definitely slow things down!

Thank you. I've never seen so much grease on a pinion gear. Much better now. Again, thanks.
