Title: Geary Twin Power 4000HG
Post by: Ozi on August 10, 2016, 08:55:32 AM
Hi,

I'd like to ask some more experienced guys here of what could be the reason for this. I have new Twin Power 4000HG (2016.) and after a couple of smaller fishes it felt geary. It is not geary while turned on a dry, but when I am turning the handle under just slight load like pulling the 12g lure upstream, I feel geary feeling every through 1/4 of the circle. It is not very evident, but it is. It was not geary from new and under the same load.

It's such a beutiful reel and spinns like buttery smooth on dry turn. I'd really like to sort this out, but don't know what to look for.

Thank you for any advice.

Best,
Oz

Any chance the side plate screws are a little loose? The side plate holds the main gear in place. Too much lateral play and the reel will feel geary.

Has the reel ever been apart? I'd inspect the gears and look to see if any of the teeth look stripped. Also check to see if all of the shims are in place.

Shimanos generally come pretty light on the grease. The reel might respond well to more grease.

If it's not completely smooth all the time I would send it back. It's a new reel and should work like a fine watch.

I hate reels I can "feel" when I'm slow reeling a bait.

I have a larger 14000 Twin Power and it's always smooth. I did however pre service it for heavy saltwater fishing.

Hi,

thank you very much, I really appreciate this.
The thing is that on dry turn reel is perfectly smooth, so I am sure they won't take it back.

Just found a local guy who service the reels. I'll let you know how this ended.

Thanks. :)
