Title: 114H WEX Frame
Post by: Shark Hunter on August 18, 2016, 01:26:12 AM
Randy provided me with a unique specimen this week. A P60 WEX Frame in Ice Blue.
These have been discontinued for a while, but they are really a niche market.
You can make a 114H wider than a 9/0, just add a few goodies and dollars. ;)
I went Black and Blue on this one. Rare 114H Black plates on a pretty unique frame.
I normally do a handle upgrade, but the stock one just felt right. ;)
Thank You Randy, You are the Man! ;D

It's time for Tom to make some 114H plates!

Good Lord,
I hope not Rudy,
I would be in the poor house.
I love the 114H. ;)
It is a great reel, especially when you can turn it into something like this.
I have four of these WEX kits now. Silver, Red, Purple and Blue.
Just the frame and spool kit is $200. Once you add an insert kit, BP Gears, ss sleeve, dogs, and Handle upgrade plus the price of the donor reel, you are in for 5 Hundred minimum per piece.
I really believe this is the most compact and powerful Senator you can build that is up for some Giants.
50lbs of drag in a reel that weighs less than a 9/0.
A labor of love, if you have deep enough pockets. ;D

Daron, I've got five H's & HLW's that need side plates. I guess we can both get in the soup line.  ;D

Beautiful color combo D!
The black goes so well with the ice blue kit. Hmmm....one of Alan's delrin grips w/ an SS handle might go even better with it. Did you do any hot rodding inside?

Aloha,
Kyle

No Hot rodding yet on this one Kyle.
I just wanted to see how it looked.
The black plates look brand new, so do the insides.

That is really sweet, that would be a beast w/ 80 lb mono from the party boats.  Yet again another sweet reel Daron.

It has all the groceries. ;)

I think I'd put the purple frame with the black plates. Purple/red doesn't work for me, of course the fish don't care!

114H Black Plates are hard to come by.
I only did the Black and Blue theme as a suggestion from Randy.
Truth be told, all four of these Monsters will probably end up with red plates in the end.
I am just lucky to find these Frames in Purple and Blue.
When they first came out, The only options were silver, red and black.
It is always a surprise when things like these turn up.
Its not like you are ordering a complete reel in the colors you desire.
You have to take it as you get it. ;)

Is that the elusive Butterscotch Handle on the black plated 6/0?

Yes it is my Man. It is tight too. ;D
I spent at least six hours working on the red one tonight.
That SOB would not cooperate. The donor was from an older 114H. The handle side plate kept rubbing on the gears.
I knew it needed attention, and I have put it off long enough, because I knew it would be a royal PIA.
It has a double step inside the plate. It was a top hat quick change model.
I didn't want to slice it up.
I took out the older Black Pearl Hex gears and went with an insert with the stock steel main and double ss dogs.
I finally got it right and it can join the other three now good to go.
The main kept rubbing on the top side of the plate.
It probably would have wore in, but I knew I needed to make it right.
Lots of options to make the old work with the new. Different sleeves, stars, gears and bridges. It is tiring to make a match work.
You have to keep at it.
