Title: Pair of Sailfisher 130's
Post by: STRIPER LOU on August 23, 2016, 10:55:39 PM
Just finished the second one up the other day and I'm really pleased how it came out. A big thank you to Randy Pauly and Fred Oakes for supplying some needed, very hard to find parts. Most appreciated guys!

Polishing the sideplates alone I have at least 10hrs into them. All the internals were replaced with period correct parts as far as what I could find.
I have another one of these that's worthy of restoring if anyone is interested. Just PM me.

I'm sure there are a few others here that have these gems and it would be great to add pics to this post so we can get a  look at them. Several gentlemen came to mind as I was typing!

That's it for tonight and time for some wine! All have a great evening,  ..  Lou

Those turned out great.

There is just something about these solid little reels.  They feel good in your hand, like they can handle a bigger fish then their size leads on.  I have 2 myself, (one boxed), and an Ocean City counterpart.  Parts are tough to come by, and the reels themselves usually show signs of having been used.

Sweet job, Lou! Those are tough to come by and I haven't been lucky enough to get the one that I want (first year), but I'll find it.
You did an amazing job on those plates because if they were new from the factory they wouldn't even shine like that.  If it's not too much trouble or a proprietary secret let us know what your trick is to getting old plates to look like that, or even new ones for that matter.
Well done, and enjoy those black beauties,
Dom

Its no secret Dom. HD automotive orange rubbing compound, then go to white, then 3 grades of Novus, coarse, med, and fine. Lastly, tons of elbow grease! Circular rubbing motion is NG. If I get a chance I'll take a closeup. They're super shiny. Keep them coming guys and gals. They're all looking sweet!
Later,  ..  Lou
