They really are fantastic creatures. Glad it broke off and hope there is no damage.

Whoever was working the rod did not drop the tip and point it at the shark.  That doesn't mean he lost the fish in this case because he did not do so,  but one should release the tension in the line so if the fish comes down on the line it may not break.  It's called bowing to the fish when it jumps.  Dominick

Funny.. I was thinking the same thing. That, and that it is a good idea to back the drag off a big when you get a 'hot' fish near the boat, and also this shows why they often end up in the cockpit with the angler. 

Like you said no indication in the video that anything the angler did or didn'the do led to the loss of this fish.

Good to see the Captain gun the motor and GTH outta dodge after the second jump that fish was incoming!

Agree about the angler not knowing how to respond to an airborne fish.
