Greetings from Langhorne, PA, originally Philadelphia. I have fond memories of visiting Penn on Hunting Park Ave in Philly from their glory days. Proud owner of a 711 "The Green Monster",713Z, 4300SS, 5500SS, 6500SS, Prion, 285, 209, and a 60 that is currently MIA... Loaned to a friend, loaned to his dad to his uncle's boat... Hmmm. The 285 was purchased for me with a little 3 eye pole by my grandmom in the early 80's. It has high miles but runs like a top. It started it's career in Grassy Sound, Anglesea, NJ. Many snapper blues, tog, and fluke ended up in the cooler thanks to the trusty 285. It never failed me in spite of healthy doses of Penn lube, motor oil, WD40, greases, 3in1 oil, and whatever else I poured on it in my childhood. Lots of other reels are out in the garage: a Sea Lake, Abu Garcia, Shimano, Diawa, Quantum, Japanese Olympic, even a DAM that's more like a off road winch. Nothing beats pounding the NJ beaches with that 711 Green Monster on an 8' one piece, throwing bucktails, of course. Any color works, as long as it's white! My biggest shore fish was landed on the 5500SS- a 37lb king salmon in NY. My biggest offshore fish was 55lb 65" wahoo off the Yucatan Penninsula on a Senator. Long live Penn Reels!
