I have had the privilege, on several occasions, to visit Shark Hunter in his lair and see some of his extensive collection of reels and big game fishing tackle. He is a wizard when it comes to hot rodding Penn reels and I have two of his creations, a 12/0 and now a 9/0. Both are set up to do battle with big sharks and have about every mod and upgrade available. On a visit early last week I was introduced to The Terminator, a 20/0 giant work of art made by Everol. It's mounted atop a massive, custom built stick and controlled by an Aftco Standup harness system. He was gracious enough to allow me to try it on for size and spend a few minutes fantasizing about hooking up with one of the mighty denizens. Going to visit Shark Hunter is like going to the candy store when I was a kid. There is so much to see and learn that I never get tired of it.
now that's a reel and a half. harryk
Awesome!
That's pretty cool. But who's the guy in the pictures? :)
Sid
I think he's a famous fisherman but I can't remember for sure
Mike,
You are too Humble.
You are the only person other than myself to touch the Terminator. ;)
The biggest reel manufactured on the Planet.
Me and my Buddy Dom got in on this one chance of a lifetime.
His is Blue and I cannot wait for his pictures.
I searched a long time for this reel.
We need to fish it together. 1000 yards of 300lb JB hollow will be the bottom shot, 200 lb mono on top.
Eat your Wheaties. ;D
As much as I love my Penn's. Everol is King on what I do and my method of fishing.
They are the reel that everyone else strives for trying to reel in a Giant Shark from the Shore.
Massive drag capacity and line. The drag disks in this reel are bigger than a 16/0.
You're going to need a bigger knife to cut yourself loose. :D ;D Dominick
I got the knife Dominick. ;D
Dom needs to spill the beans. This reel is as big as they come.
Italian perfection at its finest, Stay tuned for the latest addition. ;)
At first I thought this was some clever photoshop work... then I take a closer look and damn man that thing is a beast of beasts! Great looking reel
Andy
I keep running into that Andy, my brother also thought this reel was a myth.
I think not. You have to be persistent, Diligent and keep the faith.
There is a Man in Italy. His name is Paolo.
He makes these Beasts for those who Dare. ;)
No photoshop needed on this baby. This is the crown jewel of modern big game fishing reels. I was lucky to be there. I may never see another one of these, let alone hold it harnessed up. Shark Hunter is going to catch something really special with this outfit.
Everol makes great reels. A 20/0 is way out of my league. Even a regular Senator 16/0 is too big for me. Now for a guy like Daron, that's another story.
QuoteShark Hunter is going to catch something really special with this outfit.
That he is...
Good luck Daron!
hi daron
60 sharks spotted in the last month here
close into shore. great whites etc;
wonder how many havent been spotted?
time to mount up and head down under
bitey heaven for some hehe
cheers mate
Basic physics tells me you better strap yourself to something big and heavy before you strap the reel in!
Or strap on some wings.
Daron,
The way you are holding that monster reel It looks big enough to use as an exercise weight . Bicep curls on the Lounge chair while watching fishing videos .
Have fun catching Sharks with the Terminator .
Ray
Terminator is an appropriate name for sure. Nice reel ;D.
Daron
If that reel does not work the next step up is a Anchor Winch tied to your waist and a 12 v Battery in your back pack.
Joel 8080
When you are out on the sand David. I'm the Biggest, Heaviest thing around. ;D I will be careful with that drag lever.
I keep a very sharp knife stuck in the sand in front of my sand spike. God help me if I ever need it.
I need to make a knife holder for my harness. If nothing else, some snips.
The 9/0 I sold Mike had all the goodies available in it. Silver Tom Frame, ss sleeve, insert kit, stainless yoke, ss double dogs, Black pearl gears and a Keta Krank with a 5/0 grip to top it off. I thought he was all set.
Lo and behold, it didn't have ss dog springs. He mounted it to a rod and the handle turned backwards?
This was the reel I built for my brother to use and I knew it was sound.
SS dog springs are a must from now on. I cant explain why the brass ones gave up. I made some fresh ss springs for his reel out of windshield wiper inserts and left them a little thick to provide lots of spring. He likes the loud click of double alternating dogs. That reel is loud as hell now.
I didn't regrease it putting it back together. It has enough residual grease in there. I like my Penn Blue. ;D
I apologize for the trouble Mike, I included some extras to make me sleep better.
I know you don't like taking things for free, but they were free to me. Its called paying it forward brother. ;)
We used to have some blimps on Cudjoe Key that the Airforce and NORAD used for defense purposes in addition to broadcasting Radio Marti to Cuba. I bet that reel could pull them in. JK ;D
That is a heck of a reel though. Very few fish will contest it unless they are in the 1 ton range.
I can't help myself. I love big reels, and I cannot lie, the Terminator won't deny. ;D
I consider this reel my official roping and capturing of the Unicorn I have been trying to catch the past 3 years.
Ok, I need to put the beer down. :D
Life is Good. 8)

;D ;D ;D Keep the beer and forget the unicorn!
BT
another board rider attacked by great white yesterday
cheers
I'd go broke just spooling it up with line. That reel is bigger than my dog.
The pinnacle :o :o....congrats Daron
....plus you could always use it as an engine puller in the off season should your truck breakdown. :D :D
Ted
Wow, its a beauty and a monsta!!!!!!!
........Lou
My orthopedist said I have gray hair knee (not kidding) from kicking too many balls and never do another squat. I'm ruled out of fishing with such a marvelous piece of craftsmanship. But if I get to Ky again I'm coming to pay my respects.
NICE! Daron, are you planning on doing a tutorial of this soon?
George
The Bearings in the 20/0 are the same as the 18. I did a tutorial already on that one. (The Godfather)
This reel is just Bigger everywhere else. I will tear into it eventually. I am working too much overtime and want my head on straight when I open this one. Just because you see me online, doesn't mean I'm not getting paid for it. ;)
Week after next, I'm on Vacation. I mainly want to show the drag disks and lube everything up properly.
My connection on getting these has gone south. I have one more coming to complete my Everol Collection of the 20/0, 18/0, 14/0 and 12/0.
I really want to pursue a 9/0 wide two speed to top it off. We will see. ;)
Daron,
Just kidding, there's no need to do a tutorial on The Terminator. It's unlikely any of us will ever have one.
It looks like a finely crafted piece of machinery.
George
The 9/0 Shark Hunter Special has about the loudest clicker of any Penn I have. I think this will make a great pier fishing reel. This winter I'll be building a special rod for it to ride upon. Believe me when I tell you pictures don't do that 20/0 justice it has to be seen to be believed.

Daron, buddy, please "DO NOT" make use of that reel & the drag it's capable of with out having a proper knife "ATTACHED" to you or your harness !! A knife in the sand is worthless as your being pulled past it. It does not take much force to tip a man forward. Leaving what is most needed in a time of desperation... out of reach. I'll do any thing I can to help you with this if you will make use of it.
My Grandpa was minus a portion of three fingers. Took place while he was trying to derig a buddy being pulled over board while commercial fishing. Niether of them had a easily accessible knife on them. ..Jeff
I have upgraded my fighting plate to an Aftco Clarion with drop straps. One click of the belt and I'm free.

FANTASTIC ! Great to hear....Jeff
Yeah, I had a picture in my head of the landlord laughing as he pulls the bait ever deeper. :o
Get rid of that picture Randy.
The only landlord I want to see, is on the Beach after I whup his butt.
This reel is the same size as a gallon of paint.
That puts it into perspective.
I really am happy to have one.
I wish Everol's were better represented in the US.
They have a lot of different models besides the Giants that I have.
That's about 5 grand right there in just those four reels.
That is the discount price. ;)
This 12'6" Hammer was caught today right where I go shark fishing every year.
I am not Jealous. I am happy for the man who caught it and set it free.
A true catch of a lifetime. That is easily, 700 lbs of True Monster.
Did a little horse trading this afternoon with the Shark Hunter and came away with this brand new out of the box black spool for the 12/0. She's got just about every mod there is for one of these and is ready to do battle. I'm happy. Shark Hunter is happy. Life is good.
Mike,
If you knew how many reels I have that look exactly like that. It is Insane.
I do what I do best. It is just nice to have friends that appreciate it. ;)
As far as the horse trade. Anytime. ;D
Yes sir! When I saw what you had done with yours I knew that's what I wanted. It probably looks exactly like yours because you built it that way. Thanks again. The only other thing I wish it had is one of those swept back stars like the old OC 610 and bigger used. Anybody know how to do that?
I think Tom was going to make some.
We need the frame and plates first. ;D
Bula D,
Aren't your Penns going to be jealous next time you go fishing? ;D ;D
I'm curious what your next trips's quiver will be?
You know, a few years back, there was an international shark tagging team here attempting to line catch and tag bull sharks in the Navua River just down the road. I believe their biggest guns were a couple 12/0's and a Tiagra 130. They were either spooled or broken off many times by huge fish and the biggest shark landed over the week was only 6', though they know there were much bigger ones out there.
Out local tackle shop sold out of all his line over 65lb.
If it ever comes up again and I get wind of it, I'm going to recommend this guy I know from Kentucky, USA ;)
I don't think a 6' shark would pose any problem for one of these Shark Hunter 12/0 or 9/0 reels. We use 100 lb test and braided steel leaders. Where is this river anyway?
Wow. Just WOW!!!

South end of Fiji.
