Title: solid braid to dacron splice?
Post by: ScottOz on September 18, 2016, 01:00:16 AM
Hi All,
Can solid braid 80# be spliced to 80#dacron successfully? The reason I ask is that I can't find any short spools of  hollow 80# braid to do splice to mono top shot. Was going to put solid on reel as it seems to be far cheaper, then splice to hollow for the top shot join.
Thanks Scott

I don't know about the Dacron but a good tackle shop should be willing to sell you a few yards of hollow spectra from their bulk spools.

I have been using Dacron as a backing. I thread the braid or mono into the Dacron, punch through at 12" tie an overhand knot, back into the Dacron another 12" and out another overhand knot, and once more, for a total of three knots. Haven't had any problems, but I have never had a fish spool me down to the backing. Bill
