Title: 114H from a friend
Post by: Bill B on September 20, 2016, 11:17:28 PM
I recently did some wood work for a friend, and they gave me an old 114H and Golden Sabre rod. Took little to clean the reel and get it ready...the rod is gonna take some work. I believe they were sold as a package deal, the rod has a rail plate and the reel has an aftermarket handle...Gonna have to do some more work to payoff this combo...Bill

You got a great reel out of all those parts.

With this addition I have a set of 112, 113, and 114's.....now I have to sneak them into the living room without the wife noticing...  ;D. Bill

You did good on that 114H Bill. They are tough reels.
Nice work. ;)

That is kinda a cool handle.  Is that wood?

Looks like it has the steel main gear instead of the bronze alloy also.  I always like to find those.

There's something about the shape of the Penn Power Handle that trips my trigger, but that one is pretty cool for aftermarket. Just seems to be right for that setup. Love the barter method too, woodwork for fishing gear.  ;D

That handle would come with the reel rod and rail plate as a package for rockcodding. They were also sold with a 6/0 that had a much bigger handle that had bearings in it. I built rods here for a local shop and there were always a few in the rack. That was a great blank for that application, thick wall with plenty of bend. The whole package work really well. What was the furry stuff on the outside of the reel in the fist picture?

BTW, I think there is a very similar rod up on a well known auction site. (Hope I didn't break our rule here?)

*If so, just delete this post.

The fuzzy stuff was dust and dog hair sticking to the old grease and the handle blade is aluminum and the knob is solid aluminum. The main is steel.  All it needs is a ss gear sleeve and ready to kill some fish....thanks for the comments guys......Bill
