I've had this Mag 10 for some time and since it's an early one, didn't know for sure if it had the HT-100 drag washers on it.

I opened it up and this is what I found. A little dirty but not bad.

No picture but I removed the bridge and sure enough it did have the HT-100 drag washers so I cleaned it up, greased the drags with Cal's and then put it back together again after applying grease to the non-exposed innards of the reel.
This is what I got. I know, I know, the handle (24-56) is a bit big but I had it so I put it on. Besides, I'm going to put 17 lb mono (maybe 20 lb) on this reel and go catfishing - mostly drifting reservoirs but some river trolling too.

MO would understand.
Edited to Add: Thanks to Scott's Bait & Tackle.
It looks great Ed. I fish 20lb. mono on mine, and it performs well, you'll love fishing that reel. 8)
Thanks for the kind words MO. I think I'll end up going 20 lb mono too.
Looking good, Ed!
I love my Mag 10's and with the bigger gear / drag than the 9 you can stand that handle. I fish 20 lb on mine for same application. Nice work!
Since my post above, I've acquired a couple more of these Mag 10's and I'll be going through them soon.
Stand by Scott's for a parts order.
I like these old Mag 10's, nice little reels. Will be glad to assist whenever ready Ed.
Since the above post, I've fished the reel shown above with the "Catfish Handle" but the 24-56 handle was too ungainly for the Mag 10 reel - just felt off balance. So, today I put on an older style 24-155 handle with a red, torpedo, paddle. Much better balance.

I said in one of the posts above that I thought I'd use 20 lb test mono but it was heavier than I liked so I stripped it off and will spool 17 lb test mono before I fish it again.
A 24-85 handle that MO showed on one of his Mag 10 reels in another thread would be a good choice too.
Hey! Now I really like that red #24-155 on there...it looks great. I'd think the #24-85 I used might be too small for cats...I set up that Mag 10 for musky/bass fishing.
They look great guy's.
I had 3 old ones given to me last year. I fixed them up and gave them away to some local kids. They are using them in their Kayaks inshore bay fishing.
Hmmmm...Im gonna have to put the Mag10 on the BOLO list....thank you for sharing....Bill
Well, here are my three Mag 10's in their final configuration. The one in the middle is an early version and came with the black, plastic, torpedo, handle. The ones on either side are later models and both came with the black, rubber, flat, handle. I found yellow and red, plastic, torpedo, handles (24-155) and dressed them accordingly. All three reels are made in the U.S.A.. All of them have been gone through, greased, drags greased with Cal's and are ready to go. I have about 3000 yards of Trilene XL 17 lb test mono and will spool them with that.

Mo - you are right. I think the 24-85 handle would be too small for cat fishing.
Thanks for looking and as always, thanks to Scott's Bait and Tackle
The Penn 10 was my go to salmon reel when I lived in Alaska and I caught a 42# king salmon and my IGFA 6kg record chum on one.
I might have a SS AR dog still but the drawings are done and more can be cut.

Hello there Maureen,
I was trying to order the idler gear for this reel (and another part for the Sargus) from your website a little while ago, but to my utter dismay, of all the insignificant countries out there in your billing address list, you do not accept cards from Pakistan! How do I order? Why such partiality? Pakistan is not such an insignificant country, has an internationalized banking system and is signatory to whatnot. Above all, quite a lot of anglers own Penn reels down here. Can I expect a change in policy or should I go order from Mike or some other store?
Thanks.
ijlal, usually a policy just develops with experience.
I'm a Canadian, living in California. I really don't want anything to do with shipping to or from Canada any more, lol.
Good luck though.

Rancanfish, I tried ordering from mikesreelrepair.com and another website... same issue. I then realized it is because of paypal. All these websites accept visa and master cards through paypal only, and paypal has some issue with Pakistan. Unfortunately, that leaves me unable to order parts from here - You are fortunate to be Canadian.
