Title: Rod for Daiwa Lexa 400
Post by: handi2 on October 14, 2016, 11:43:03 PM
I currently have my Lexa 400 on a freshwater Muskie casting rod.

Im looking for something stronger and built for saltwater. I like the 7'6 length because its used from the boat. I haven't found a 40 to 80 or stronger 50 to 100 rod in this length. Im using 65 to 80lb braid.

Any help for me?

I don't know of a 50-100# rod that I'd want to put a Lexa 400 on. What is your intended use?
There's a Daiwa Proteus rod (prtb76xhf) that's 7'6", rated 30-60 (70-120# braid) that's worth looking at.

Do you fish from a wheelchair? If so, ignore what follows!

I have no problem with an 8'er, even on a skiff.  I use the Phenix psw809xhj. It's 8', rated 25-60. I have 50# spectra on my Lexa 400 and use a 40-50# leader. I've recently caught YT and Wahoo with this combo. Casts a long way with a surface iron, Raider or Wahoo bomb.

I caught 7 YT in June on Alan's SoA 5 day at San Martin with the Lexa 400 on a 9' jigstick (Phenix psw909xhj). I caught 7 Wahoo on my 10 day on the same rod using a TranX throwing bombs. Don't sell yourself short by using a shorter rod than you can get away with!

Thanks Mark,

I use it throwing at Cobia and other Pelagics. Then bottom fishing too.

Yes I have to stay in the chair. 90% of the time i run the boat but ever once in a while i get to fish.

Daiwa makes a 7' and 8' version of that xh Proteus too.  Do you fight with the rod butt under your arm or do you put the butt on the seat between your legs?

Under my arm either spinning or conventional.

I checked out that Daiwa 76xh today. It's a beast! You might want something a little more bendy fishing sitting with it under your arm.

That's a stiff, powerful rod. Go beast mode with it!
