Title: 14/0 from parts
Post by: Shark Hunter on November 24, 2016, 05:01:07 AM
Since I have Thanksgiving behind me. (We had it early) I thought I had enough parts to build a 14/0.
Thanks to Mike, he bought a 12/0 spool and called me when it wouldn't fit. Lo and behold, it was a 14/0 spool! :o
He called it horse trading. I called it, Big Bonus!!
The price of that spool doesn't make a 14/0 from parts cost effective.
I help him out whenever I can, it all comes around.
I needed new plates and rings and a few odds and ends, most of which I already had.
I will start on it tonight and finish tomorrow.
Thank You Mike! ;)

Now that's a parts supply...since I'm only doing it for myself I try to keep it to what I can carry with one arm. Your box of SS sleeves cost more than my whole stash....

If you take a good look Ted, There are two doubled up.
I thought with all new parts, this reel would slide together like butter.
No such luck, it fought me tooth and nail like any other reel from parts.
I experimented with four different bridges until I finally had to settle on one.
SS Main gear, posts, insert kit, ss sleeve and single dog with SS Handle arm and 5/0 grip.
After a little cussing, It turned out pretty nice.

I really wanted to use a chrome bridge, but it would not line up with the new plates.
My efforts pay off in the end. Nice and tight fit on all parts, This reel feels smooth as a baby's butt now.
Ready to tackle the Monsters of the Deep. ;)

Nice work Daron!

That one lookes like it came together nicely.

I need to find the time to work on my personal 9/0s,12/0s, and 14/0.

I am going to try to test the versa drag inserts out on a good fish.

I also like seeing a knife in your pics.

  Another home run Daron !1

Building this reel from scratch and having to pay retail for each component would put you up into the stratosphere... For those folks that don't know.... ONLY Daron could pull this one off without breaking the bank.

Congrats buddy, you proved once again that yuda man  :o :o
