Title: WIP Acrylic's for Broadway
Post by: STRIPER LOU on December 18, 2016, 12:31:22 AM
Here's some WIP Acrylics for Dom. I believe going on Tom's beautiful squidders! The green translucent is awesome and some of these pearls are pretty darn nice too. The white light sliver/black pearl is a great color, especially if your looking for a black/white knob and the steel blue/gray has a very deep pearl luster. Its a sleeper! Any of the darker colors take a bit longer to polish as they will show the smallest of imperfections.
Angles and radii were changed a small amount on the green tbar and steel/blue knob to suit Kim and Jack.

I have around 20 orders from here on the AT site and just about all of them are in this stage of completion.

All have a great evening,  ..  Lou

All look great, but that Blue is stunning.
Great looking material and machined to perfection.

Lou is a magician with this acrylic...  He turns his pieces from plastic to perfection.
The white and black is a very elegant knob and old fashion (for me), while the other two are more cool and playful and full of depth... they all fit our personalities to a tee. ;)
Once I got the first 3 for the jiggys and 113h's I new I had to get more for Tom's beautiful squidders he sent us.
These grasps accompanied by Adam's handles, and Tom's kits make a reel one of a kind and heirloom quality.
I'm thrilled on how the next batch of 3 is coming out, and can't wait to put them on their respective reels.
Lou's communication and specs are second to none and made totally custom for the hand that will be holding it.
I'm proud to say that I am Lou's customer and will continue to be for years to come.
Love 'em Lou!
Dom

Thanks to everyone for their positive reply's!

Sal, the steel blue/gray pearl is amazing and the depth cant even be described. I had originally had in my post that this color would be available in February, but talking with my supplier last night its not to be.
I removed it from my post and also the fact that it may hold up some of my local orders possibly pushing them out to April.

I have 1 short pc left of the steel blue and I'm going to try to squeeze and angled tbar for myself when I get a chance. Don't make too many of the angled T's due to the time involved.

Dom, its always a pleasure working with you and I hope you'll get the time to visit and see the shop someday. Its great making a custom job that your happy with. Makes it all worthwhile having a satisfied customer and I'm super anxious to see the final products on your reels.

The next operation they all need is, a trip to the mill. Every Tbar gets trammed for centrality and reamed. A tube gets machined from 316L, cut to length, and straight knurled. The tube gets pressed into the knob and glued with a slow cure (24hr) 2 part epoxy. Between the knurl, press fit, and epoxy, it makes for a very strong connection. Then comes the actual SS shaft w/2 tapped holes, a machined flange (for 113H), and the proper clearance and end play to hold grease and feel like a bearing without the associated problems that bearings can bring.

You will never see a knob come from here where a screw rides directly in the plastic. Its just not the correct way to do it and have something that is reliable.

In an effort to get caught up I wont be taking any orders for the month of January. Hopefully this will help with some of my backlog and keep all my customers happy.

Again, thanks to everyone for comments and purchases and have a great afternoon,  ..  Lou

Magnificent work Lou.....I can't stop staring at those cool color combinations. I just want to reach thru the screen and grab them, but then Dom would reach back thru and take em back. He has long arms that reach across the country  :D :D

That's right, Ted! Don't lay a finger on my butterfinger. ;)
I'm "Mr. Impatient" but Lou's stuff is so good it's worth it the wait and almost looks like I'm being patient, lol.
You made some good choices on your grasps from Lou, so I have no doubt you'll be ecstatic when they arrive.
Lou, stop chatting with us and get to work, ;D

Dom it's a easy trip to Lou's home from the city, I would take him up on the invite to see his shop and the whole operation. I have seen it and Lou and Gracie are gracious hosts.

That's awesome Lou. If you have a chance to make my t-bars angled, that would be preferred for sure. I can wait. No rush. I still have to build my daughter's reels. If you come across red ones like the blue ones I ordered, I would also take a set for my son of equal size as my daughter's.

Thanks again for offering these for AT members.

Hey Bry, your handles are partially completed. Unfortunately I don't have the extra time to do the angled tbars. I need to build a fixture to do them properly and just cant get to it.  I wish I could but I just have way too much work and a heck of a backlog!

The last several days have been absolutely crazy here and the phone has been ringing off the hook. I had brought some samples to the Rod & Gun Club last week and maybe I shouldn't have.

I do have some red on order and will send you a pic when it comes in.

Thanks and have a great evening,  ..  Lou
