Title: Olympic VS4000
Post by: Big Tim on December 21, 2016, 09:22:08 PM
While digging around I found an old spinning reel. At first glance I thought is was an old Daiwa, but it is an Olympic VS4000...Made in Japan around 1981, does anyone have any other information to add? Looks un fished? Not to bad inside for a cheap old reel, with helical cut gears & 300 yrds of #15 it should fish light to medium salt applications?

I have seen and been through at least 8 of them over the years. Nothing on them is magnetic if I remember right. They have a huge 10x20x5 pinion bearing according to my notes.

One of Dawn's Carbontex sets drops right in.

Nothing at all wrong with these work horse reels.

I believe they are a copy of a Daiwa reel that looks just like it. It may be the Daiwa that all parts are non magnetic.

pretty sure it's the other way around: Daiwa either arose from the ashes of Olympic, or absorbed the better remnants of Olympic
