Title: R&D on a rod reclamation
Post by: thorhammer on February 06, 2017, 07:07:04 PM
So, I had a Pinnacle Coastal from a yardsale or somewhere for years sitting around, missing 6" from tip, four guides remaining and three were smashed. Such a misabused ugky duckling I used it to test spray paint on for color / wear so it had a bout ten coats on it...well I've gotten eye strain wrapping black, red and gold recently  and figured 300 or more black rods is probably enough for one person. I did some work on one of my honey Lami's recently and decided to do something different, so I needed to test drive a new type of paint and some new thread  / cord wraps also, before I commit to a whole stand. The Pinnacle had a slick butt, serviceable seat, and aluminum gimbal so I got some sand paper and got stripped and sprayed. Still not finished with trim and top coat but I'm liking the scheme.

Very nice! I like that butt wrap. Is it a diamond wrap over a tiger wrap?

Mike

Since I wrap free hand without lathe and watched Vadney do it; sure it's s tiger wrap.  😎  Jk. I'm not that skilled. It's a simple open diamond over metallic 3/32 craft cord I was experimenting with for finish and texture. Really too heavy for that and more of a butt cord application but that's why it's R&d.

I like the color scheme but between getting the paint finish correct and the woven thread colorfast it's a lot more work.

Hahaha...either way, it looks awesome. He showed me how to do the tiger wrap, but I still haven't gotten it right...

John, looks good, but I'd do a spiral wrap on the rods. I believe.

Um, er, (cough cough) Hi John, I forgot to mention that narrow blue kit and cortez plates were just on loan to you, and now that it has matching rod I'll take em both. :D :D  I'll gladly pay you $10 for your time  ;D ;D and effort. 8) 8)

Nice work my friend

Thanks! I guess I need another blue Tank Top kit since I got matching Lou handles. If I ever make it home I will install some goodies. Back in LA now.
