Title: 10/0
Post by: thorhammer on March 13, 2017, 10:51:46 PM
Excellent piece received from Daron. I didn't touch except for Ande and new 117 handle I had laying around.

Thanks my man, a real solid.

John

Way nicer than my 10/0, I got it from an old guy at the harbor and it was well used for many many years.
It's now in two boxes waiting for a long soak in simple green and probably some updated posts and possibly rings to make it look Good.
That ones a beauty.

There's enough pink Ande on that beast to spool up four of my reels! :D  Looks great John. 8)

Great teamwork, John & Daron --

Shows clearly what this site is all about -- respect, sharing, helping, and camaraderie.

That crank handle you have, John -- is very capable -- however, if you want a new stock 116 crank -- let me know and I would donate a NOS black one to the cause -- N/C.

This is one of the toughest Senators to get -- just because it has been out of production so long -- other ones that are tough also -- are the 1/0, 2/0, 16/0.

Best,

Fred

Nice real John, one of my favorite. maybe Adams handle would be a good move, those are approximately three-quarter 1 inch longer and  really make a difference. As you already know that 10/0  is the second largest reel from Penn, being  narrow makes it a little  tougher than it's larger brother, the 12/0.😎
Enjoy it!

That reel had a butterscotch handle on it.

Fred thanks!

I'm gonna stick with that one because my fishing partner gave it and I like the throw on it.  Daron sent the reel with pristine stock butterscotch handle which will live on it during display. Many of my Penns have the butterscotch knobs as it's my favorite of all; Fred and Sal have both sent those handles in the past for me to convert others. I frequently scour all sources to find original Stren Gold which looks cool old-skool with those knobs.

I'll use the 117 handle in practice because it fits my sausage finger mitts better.

I REALLY like the balance on this reel. Crap now I want a matching set 😀😀😀😀😀

John, Berkley now makes orange mono that is the same shade of orange  as the Stren Gold. It's called Pro Spec Chrome. The smallest spools are 1 lb. from 20# to 60# & 3 lb. spools for 80# and up.                 Rudy

Thanks Rudy! I know some surf guys that swear by that.
