Title: Diawa LD 20 2 Speed Problem
Post by: kcferry on April 29, 2011, 09:27:56 PM
I've had the Diawa LD 20 for 2 years now and I like the reel however, recently the handle is becoming progressively tighter to turn when the reel is engaged and set at about 12lbs at strike. I've serviced the reel myself several times and re-greased the bearings but the problem persists. I suspect it could be the pinion bearing or the left spool bearing as they are under load when compressed to create drag. When the reel was new the handle turned smoothly and freely even under heavy drag. Since only one side of the race in the bearing is under pressure when the reel is engaged I am wondering if I should just flip them over or should they be replaced?
Or, could something else be causing the tension on the handle while the reel is engaged?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

sounds like a right main side plate bearing!

Thanks Alan,
would that be the one the pinion gear sits in and is half under the main gear?
If so,  can I just flip it over for now until I get a new one?
