He is not building a bomb.
This is a model rocket.
I know the terminology.
Sometimes you just have to wing it. ;)

Let's just say I know my way around model rocketry.
I gave all of them away last year to a club that helps kids get into the hobby.

Yes, I'm serious . . .

Started flying model rockets in 1967, at age 6 . . . Flew in competition for almost 40 years.

The data is for a Scale Model of the Ariane-1, first launched in 1979.

Last pic is me at a contest, in 1975 ( I was 14 ) , 4th from the right in the white shirt.

You may be getting a call from North Korea, Daron --

Just tell them you cannot run their rocket program at this time...

Too many Everol's to take care of.

Best,

Fred

I've never been a Lawyer. ;)

I Built that Interceptor from Scratch. Even made the Decals.

As Dave knows, I offered my 82 year old neighbor Terri's translation service. She is Czechoslovakian born and bred but left with her husband and children and the clothes on there backs when the Soviets invaded in 1969. She couldn't help because she has spoke only English for her children's benefit in the 48 years she has been here and, also a little German to her sister in Berlin.

I showed her Dave's rocket papers and she tilted her head and smiled and said her husband who died 2 years ago would have loved to have translated it. He continued to speak Czech his whole life with the other aeronautical engineers he worked with.

So thanks Dave for helping me get to know Terri a little better. Her story of fleeing and of being a refugee with young children is harrowing and inspiring and I am so glad I got to hear it. Little old ladies have a lot to say. Listen.

29mm x 360 rebuildable. I mainly flew G's, H and I motors.

Cesaroni or Aerotech RMS hardware ?

An Aerotech I211W would be very pretty in that rocket !

My casings are from Dr. Rocket. The rebuilds were usually Aerotech.
I gave all my rockets away to a local club that will donate them to kids.
I kept a few, and still have some kits and motors.
I do have a 38mm case, but have never used it.
I never became certified, but could buy an H or an I at local events.
Most of my rockets were smaller with the G-64.
That motor makes a lot of Noise!
I saved this one in particular. An Upscaled Goblin.
These type were my favorite builds.
The Nose Cone is almost as long as the body tube.
Short and fat with Big fins makes it really stable, and it soars after lift off.
That is a 9/0 on the table to give it some scale.
I will fly it some day.
All the local parks have banned them.
It spurs from RC plane events and someone gets hurt.
So they just Ban anything that flies.
You can still get one good launch, but then its time to pack your bags.
The G's and up are so loud, you can feel and hear them blasting off from a long Distance.
You also have to keep a fire extinguisher handy.
If the ground is dry, it will catch on fire from the propellant.
I've been into this Hobby since I was a very young Boy.
I wish I had more time.

Daron,

Dr. Rocket hardware is great. Actually, I think it's better than the original Aerotech RMS units. The casings seem to last longer.

Ny NAR number is #26128 and my Tripoli number is #517, certified Level 2 in both. Before I left Florida in 2006, I made an unsuccessful Level 3 attempt on a Hypertek  "Hammerhead" M-1010 with the 111mm diameter tank.

I miss flying competition more than HPR, plus it's a LOT less expensive !

I never got into competition.
I joined a few clubs, but I just wanted to do it for fun.
When I did want to get certified.
There was a big event at Voice of America Park in Ohio several years ago. I think it was the NARAM.
I purchased an H motor, but then after waiting forever. I went to the other side of the park and did my own thing with my family.
When I let that H go, I had a few guys come over and say there was an event going on, and that I was missing out.
I told them I had my own event with my family.
My Launch pad has a no waiting policy. ;)
Rocketry is also banned from that park now.
I used no timers or altimiters.
I did it old school.
Just something about building your own rocket and sending it thousands of feet into the sky with a successful recovery.
It is a rewarding hobby.
I miss it.

How did I miss a rocket thread for so long. I wish we had this sort of group back in the good ole days. My Tripoli no. is 360 but I heard they were going to start recycling numbers. Tom could have whipped us up some serious components. I flew a lot with Frank Kosdon. He walked into our camp at  Lucerne Dry Lake one night and started conversations about reloadable motors...he told us he went to MIT and like to fly rockets. Once he built some they were real shreaders and were just destroying rockets. I started building some real strong 3" rockets with Franks reloadables in mind and never paid for another motor again. It was an R&D partnership, I supplied the rockets and Frank supplied the motors and we would fly as many as we could in a day. Rocketry is not the same without him. Daron, I hear you about the lines. I went to the last LDRS that they held at Lucerne and swore I wouldn't return. Range fees were high and the lines were long...oh...and no ATVs on the playa, it just wasn't what I remembered...but what is anymore?

In about another 10 years or so, I will retire and get back into the hobby.
I held back enough kits to keep me busy.
To this day, when I'm on my way to Florida and see a big open field with the crops already harvested.
I think of launching.
I never got really serious, but My family and I had lots of fun with it.
Hang out at the park, grill out, shoot some rockets and let the kids chase them down.
Then at the end, break out the big boys.
Open the hood on the truck, and hook up the launch control. It took a key to turn it on and beeped. The kids loved it.
A G-64 was my favorite engine.
No need to be certified.
Made a very loud roar and black smoke when it took off.
I always tried to do things as a Family and still do when I get time. ;)
