Title: Oops! New ultrasonic machine surprise....
Post by: Whit on April 11, 2017, 02:41:57 PM
Friends:

I just got one of those shiny ultrasonic machines talked about on this board and the first reel to go in there was an old Pfleuger Medalist fly reel.  Thing worked so well that not only the grit came off, but also the paint:  its as shiny silver as a new Accurate!

Hmmm, now what?

I'm a traditionalist so am thinking of repainting it.  Cant tell if its made of pot metal or aluminum.   Thinking of rattle canning it using some self etching primer and matt black paint.  Anything I should be concerned about?

yeah, i had one and gave up on it.  i ruined the anodizing on a calcutta when i added laundry detergent instead of simple soap.  chances are the paint would not have lasted anyway.  nothing wrong with a fresh coat of rustoleum!
