My Easter gift to my self, was a set of cortez conversion jigmaster plates. Got 'em thur. night, waiting on my doorstep, like a fishermans Easter basket. While building it, decided to mag. the spool 'cause the new bearings gave freespool galore. Took my first tanked reel on it's first fishing trip today(Sunday), batted a 1000, one bite and my first tank reel fish. Best Easter since I's a kid making myself sick on candy. The trolling strike liked to have ripped the rod oudda the holder, 2-fast short runs and a long arm numbing, down deep, bull doggin battle. A great field test for my new 501 tank and it was flawless. Interestingly enough, I's sure she'd taken the shimano waxwing plug in the back but no, she grabbed the shrimp fly streamer 3ft. up front. Got a big stash of Black skipjack sashimi for my wife, her absolute favorite.

Great Job G! ;D
Awesome reel, and great day fishing. It just doesn't get any better than that.
Man, that's really nice Gfish. Was the waxwing all wound up in the line or still swinging free when you got the fish up?

Awesome! Rewarding catching with what you've built...and from a kayak no less! I know the feeling, but miss my Outback.
Like we all should be Steve, "SWINGIN FREE"! Have had the waxwing lure($15-20, very expensive) for a year now, love the irregular, darting action, but to best a my memory, no bites. Very versitile lure, jigging(sinks on a balenced"no tangle up"angle), casting and trolling. Same thing a year ago, a smaller Skipy took the front fly, not the waxwing...
One snafu. Try ta set up mosta my stuff for one hand manipulation, which is best for when it's rough sea, swell n' chop, but those coil-formed, weedeater line sections a the rod leash gotta go, they tangle-up everything. One got my pole-spear, right when I needed it yesterday. Probably go with straight 'chute cord when I change.
I herd from my Neighbor yesterday a guy swimming or surfin got tiger shark bit about 15 miles west of here. Might have to alter my method of bleeding/gutting fish right after I land 'em. It takes awhile and all that blood drains right into the water. Works good for meat taste though, I bring ice packs that I stick into the body cavity.

Great job pal; its always better when you get lucky the first time! ;) Sounds like excitement was had. Sharks??? oh oh?
I do think you get better meat if you bleed and gut the fish quite soon after the catch. especially where its warm!
I noticed your tall shiny shop vac in a photo. I got a similar looking one and it does not have much suction. How do you like yours??

Mine SUCKS!, Stupid, I know, couldn't resist. The suctions good as long as the bag's relatively clean or unobstructed. The hose connections really do suck, plastic crap that wears out quickly(won't stay put, splits, etc.). Can't find bags for it on this island, though, so I adapt other brand bags rather than pay shipping.
