Title: Penn 430 ssg question
Post by: stunngunn on June 27, 2017, 09:20:17 PM
New to this site, excited to be here!  Amateur reel repair questions:  I have several Penn 430 ssg reels and love them (except for the weak graphite neck to the reel seat that easily breaks).    I have one reel where the bail will not lock in the open position but instead just flips closed when I let go of it.  I have messed with the springs 100 times to no avail.  I don't really even understand what causes the bail to hold in the open position.  What is causing this problem and how do I fix it?  Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Hopefully the parts #28 and #28A just need oiling to get them moving again.

Here is a schematic for that reel.

Thanks for the tip, handi2.  After trying about 100 times with no success, I finally realized I was putting the bail spring tip in the wrong hole on the bail, proving once again I'm an idiot, but at least I'm a persistent idiot.
