Gstours, very nice! Every time I see your posts they are loaded with a bunch of great halibut pics.

What general area/towns are you fishing out of? Not trying to steal your spot, just curious which region you are from?

I'm in Juneau area and have just recently been getting into some butt. Went to Tenakee over the weekend and fished freshwater bay off chigikoff. Brought home about 70lbs in fillets!!!!woohoo! Let my friends daughter bring in a 56lbs butt. Quite a fun time for all!

Based off your pictures I wouldn't change a thing!

Oh and what reels are you running for your butt?

I'm with the two gentlemen Gary, don't change a thing...are you losing weight or the butts getting bigger? ;D

A few answers to a fun question. ;)
The area we live in SE AK is west of Juneau about 70 miles.  We are in Gustavus, a tiny town north of Hoonah on the Icy Straits.  The best fishing seems to be in Cross Sound which is west of us.  The Gulf of Alaska is seen from the boat.   Its got lots of islands and provides lots of feed for the fish.  The Salmon seem to be smaller than the Sitka area,  Butt its ok for halibut and rockfish as well.
I like to use a lot of reels, and cant fish them all, all the time? ???    Butt the Tiagra 16 and 20 seem to find favor.  And lately I,ve been playing with a couple of electric reels.  These can take some of the fun out of a big fish, Butt reeling in to rebait or move sure makes you smile ::)
Tanks for the interest.  Maybe see you out there?

Lastly yes I,ve lost weight, ;) tanks for noticing, went from 240 to 165#  I feel great dont have near the joint pain I had. :-*

Looking good, Gary, the fish, the boat, the rods and reels, the man in the mirror ( that head full of hair is to die for)...and the cooler?

Well, at some point it will give up the ghost, but maybe before that happens you could introduce an apprentice cooler to ride shotgun along side of ole Red there and have it rub some mojo off onto junior.

Then maybe at Christmas, New Year's  or whenever you reminisce about good times past, you bring Ole Red to shore and park him in the front garden facing south to live his sunset years looking over the Icy Straits.

Or not.

We had halibut...self caught Alaskan Halibut at that...the other night.
Cubed, pancake batter dipped and rolled in coconut flakes then deep fried in coconut oil.

A little Guy Fieri cocktail sauce on the side with fresh guacamole, chips and cold diet pepsis with fresh lemon slices. Yum!

Oh and there was gilled teriyaki marinated coho steaks , too.

That last pic...my odometer with outside temp thermometer....yeow!

I agree, bring an apprentice cooler out and absorb some of he purple haze mojo off ole Jimi.  Then retire home to the garden, maybe make a planter out of him?

If I were you I'd put up on Ebay.  There are a lot of guys that need some Mojo.  You could make a bunch of dough.  Of course you wont catch that many butts after the cooler is gone.  ;D :D Dominick
