Title: Calcutta 400b
Post by: Catfishcc on July 15, 2017, 11:12:26 PM
Got a shimano Calcutta 400b.  Having problems don't always go into gear.
I have to smack it to get it to engage.   I have tore apart and looked at it
Put some fresh lube on stuff.  Still does it.  Any suggestions?  Apparently
Something might be worn.
Thanks

Just smack it harder..!!

The reel must need a good service. Take a look at the yoke and its springs. If there is any binding the pinion gear will not engage the spool easily. That is what's happening.

When you smack it the spool and pinion gear engage. Make sure there is no side to side slack in the spool, everything is lubed up and moving well.

Being an older reel the pinion gear could be worn and doesn't want to catch the pin on the spool. Check both the spool pin and the pinion gear.
