Hi every one, hope your all keeping well, I asked this question, yesterday in the Penn tutorial section, not sure if I am missing something @ the start of my new posts or not, I can`t even find that post today, anyway try again here, I have a Penn 114H, I am trying to service, the bearing in the back plate, or the left side plate in a right hand wind reel, this bearing looks like it has a washer forced into the front of it, I tried to force it out, with consideral amount of presher, not wanting to brake anything I stopped, can anyone tell me the normal way to open this bearing, I have only opened 1 other 114H and the bearings were fine in it so I place a couple of drops of TSI301 in it, all is good with that reel, thanks in advance, cheers Don.
It's a cap to keep the bearing from sliding out. You have to use a puller or a homemade tool to pry it out. I have a small screwdriver that I bent the tip to make a small "hook." I don't put them back in one they come out though. :-[
I saw the post yesterday. Only have exp. w/ one set of senator bearings, removed tail side "cap", failed on the other side. I's lookin for the thread on doin it, for ya, but got sidetracked. Guys should be chiming in. Could be needs solvent soak and possibly heat, and a good/right tool. Could be, you gotta replace the whole cup assembly(bearing, cup and"cap").

BD, as Army stated you need to pry it out. If you leave the bearing cap screwed into the plate this will give you a little more leverage. These can be stubborn and difficult to remove. Unless the bearing needs replacing I will just add a few drops of ReelX or similar oil and call it good. Bill
Yes thanks Bill, that's what I done with the first one, as I have a bit more time with this one, I thought I would try to do it full proof, I have Had a bit of a win with the 114H with these 2 reels, talking in Aussie dollars, I brought the first reel with a pen standup rod for AU $ 85.00, and the second one, with a standup rod for AU $50.00, I brought 500M of 130LBS for the first reel, the second reel was loaded fully with braid much thicker than the 130 lbs, both rods & reels in really good condition, By the way the 500M, of 130LBS saratoga braid I brought had 2 untidy joins in it and 4 or for Metres of real rough section, I wont be buying any more of that, cheers Don.
