Post by: gstours on July 29, 2017, 04:11:38 PM
Sometimes things just dont work out the way we planned.   (we mice n men)    At least in baseball you 3 tries?
Here is a raw clip of some halibut fishing done in June,   Sure was fun.    See what you think.   Any suggestions ?   Tanks.

That's why many people here in BC don't like the 'finger style' harpoon head they can back/tear out easily.

No matter though the shock from the first hit calmed him down nice-harpooning Halibut is a clumsy undertaking and always will be.

Harpoon enough halibut and it will happen. I like getting them flat and very near the surface then go all the way through, up the shaft, and aim for the belly where not much fillet gets damaged.

Explain that to the fish though and see if one ever cooperates. :D

I have pulled them in green before and did the fish whisperer thing where you run your finger along the lateral line a few times. Put's them into a happy place real quick for bonking and unhooking.

Main thing is ya got it done safely and didn't lose the fish either.

Counting the days to returning to Alaska....so keep 'em coming!
