I was wondering just how hard I can reliably push my Daiwa Luna 300 as far as pressure on the anti-reverse goes. This reel does not have any backup to the AR roller bearing.
Has anybody here had any issues with a properly maintained AR roller bearing? I've fought some heavy fish briefly pulling out drag set to about 5-7 lbs. and it held just fine. How much more do y'all think I can push it?
because the reel is so small, you might actually get 12, maybe even 15 pounds of drag. these ranges would shred the gears, but the anti-reverse bearing would probably hold up with a new bearing. as the AR bearing ages, the amount of hold will decrease. short of a full teardown, you could drizzle some corrosion x down the throat of the drive shaft, in and around the anti-reverse roller bearing, and it would probably be ok. figure that the corrosion x will foul up the drags, though.
bottom line, stick to 5 pounds of drag. that will kill most anything local, anyway!
