Title: Tekota 700 problem
Post by: mudgecko63 on June 11, 2011, 02:25:00 AM
I recently serviced a Tekota 700 had bad corrosion (couldn't disengage the reel into free spool) and a bearing that was u/s. It came up well considering. It was returned and was used again on a recent trip but the reel developed a problem which was while under very heavy load and heavy drag it seems to slip and make a grinding noise. I have stripped the reel again and seems to be OK nothing out of place. There isn't much to go wrong, the only thing I can think of is the spool itself slipping on the shaft is this likely or am I missing something else here? Any ideas?

that or spectra slipping on the spool.  also, the metal drag washers have to be in the proper order.  time to crack it open again!

OK I will do that although pretty sure they are, but it doesn't hurt to check. Will check the spool also with the shaft and strip the braid off and see if is backed onto mono or tape.
