Sooo I just heard you can get your reels powder coated to a custom color. Do you know if this process has any adverse affects on the reel? I was thinking it would interfere with the anodizing and make it more corrodible.
I'm not a powder coating expert, but anodizing should be a non-issue when powder coating aluminum because it's removed prior to applying powder onto the part.

Corrosion wouldn't happen unless moisture got underneath the powder coat layer.

Look up 'powder coating' on Google or good old yellow pages. Powder coaters do mostly automotive work but not all automotive paint shops powder coat. If you have a shop near you, I would suggest a visit so you can see how they handle small pieces.

I forgot all about Jurelometer's thread, Dave does some good work.
I have some of his powder coated brass stars and some knobs that look amazing. I remember asking Dave to do a run for everyone here, but he wasn't interested...too bad.
Powdercoat is only as good as the powder base being used. Unfortunately, most shops (around here at least) use cheap powder thats doesnt weather well, and isnt all that durable.
Powdercoat in and of itself isnt a different coating than paint. There are many different resin bases available in both powder paints and traditional solvent based paints, and most types are available in both. Powdercoating has nothing to do with the actual product being applied, it is just a manner of applying that does not have VOC's, and therefore isn't regulated by the EPA. A significant cost of paint with solvent based paints(on the professional level in particular) is EPA compliance.
If you're looking for someplace that does smaller pieces than whole cars ask your local bicycle shop- I'm thinking of having my bike done next month.
