Title: Longbeach 160
Post by: Noviceman on November 05, 2017, 12:04:19 AM
Have recently gained 2 of these reels just to take apart and make work better and have question...

I have one that has the ocean scene with lighthouse and birds etc on the left  plate and little engraving also on the handle side plate and no part numbers on the interior parts that I can find...

The other one has smooth plates and no engraving but inside shows part numbers on many of the parts...The dogs seem to be  different lengths? and not sure if one is worn or if there were 2 different size dogs??

Wondering what years these 2 might have been made also and which is the newer one....

As always appreciate any info.

Jim from Wisconsin...

Smooth plate is much newer.  I couldn't tell you years but those were made up until the last twenty years ago; the Beachmaster originated maybe 50's

Thanks thorhammer....the smoothside reel is in way better shape than the other one....Looks like a nice little reel....Have a good squidder, lb65 and now this 160.     Now I have to learn how to cast one of these?     Never used anything but levelwind reels and spinning reels...

That 160 goes way back fellas...like '39 it was introduced. These reels were called "Light Tackle" reels until '52...then they were referred to as "Beachmaster" reels. This one of mine is an early example...possibly a 1939. 8)

My old one has the same right side plate as your picture....had a red handle which was broke in half when I got it...looks like it had been half broke for some time....

These are easy for me to cast -- I just buy a spinning reel.

All kidding aside -- good reels.  Working man's Squidder.

Not much to go wrong -- and solid little reels.

Good find!

Best,

Fred
