Title: Trouble
Post by: Scattergun2570 on November 07, 2017, 05:02:37 AM
I did something stupid years ago. I have a Daiwa Advantage 4000A..about 15 yrs back I decided it would be a good idea to use Gasket Making material,,I think it was Permatex..squeeze it out of a tube stuff. I took off the rear plastic cover of the reel and layed a line of it in thinking it would seal it from the saltwater that was splashing up against the waders and up into the bottom of the reel. I figured I would have been able to pull it off,but it will not come off ! I tried cutting into the gap with a razor blade like John D suggested..but it wont budge.. I want to take it apart and try to service it,but I just cant seem to get into it..I looked at the schematic,,and it appears that that the one screw is the only thing that is holding the cover on..so I assume its the gasket making material that has just welded itself on. I assume I have to take the rotor off and go in that way?

Hopefully the picture posted and you can see where I applied the sealant.

That's the kind of creative waterproofing I would have done too! At one time. So you can't just drop it, I gotta know if you got into it? and if so how?  I used to just throw my reels away and buy new ones.

Yes I got it with the razor blade..had to push it straight in ,instead of trying to slice along the seal..was amazed how well it held.

Any of the silicone based gasket sealers are also really good adhesives.
