I finally got the "you know what" to venture out past the near shore zone in my yak, to where the pelagics live and it paid off. The Cortez Clasic Jigmaster 500 lost it's cherry in most splendid fashion. Good eats!
Helped alot that we have that Winter-Southside- a -the Island, calm, relatively flat water.
Still gotta watch it though, on the way back in, wraped some mono topshot around the prop a my electric motor and couldn't eliminate the error code in the throttle control to get it going again. Ah well, I really needed the exercise and the lack of that prevailing wind blowing me SW(off-shore) made it stressless.
There was a school of 'em in the area. They did that swarm around the hooked fish behavior thing. Couldn't find 'em again though. Killin one's good enough for me.
Nice going! You have a motor on your yak?
Now thats some cool stuff... Jeff
Way ta go Gfish! 8)
There's nothing like pulling the first one in on the new rig. Especially a sweet fish like that. ;D
Congrats brother....now get back out and catch some more :). Bill
It was beautiful out there this weekend. Nice Going! I saw 3 yaks out south shore Oahu Saturday. There was a nice temp break, and lots o life in close. Good day to yak.
Not to threadjack, but...
Went fishing by myself yesterday.
I left the dock @0500hrs, fished barber's until 0645, caught 1 Akule, trolled BO, ran to HH and dropped live bait, lost it to the bouy line, chunked and jigged for 2 hours, Shortfin pilot whales showed up, trolled 500fa back to Barber's. South barber's point to pearl harbor loaded with small aku about 3-5miles out.. caught 1. Back at dock at 1400hrs. Burned 24gals fuel.
Also, just built a dockside bait pen for $15. What do u think?

What I think is, you need to start a thread with details of how you built this. I am needing something just like this that collapses & can be stowed on the outside of a pack... Jeff

Yeah. Expensive lil' bugger, German made, but the motor part is integrated into the Hobbie "mirage drive" well, so it clips in right where the peddels go. System comes with a battery(built in gps) ana throttle( %battery remaining, speed, time left on battery at given power consumption, watts being used, and the nessassery wiring. Get about 2.75 hr. Trollin time at 4mph. Max. Speed= 5.5mph(on a calm day) and it's got reverse. Best thing is: I gotta 'nough energy left after fishin, to do all the maintenance and clean any fish I get.
