Post by: ez2cdave on January 30, 2018, 04:55:48 PM
Greetings, Ohana !

Does anyone know what the Patent number is for Daiwa's MAGSEAL technology ?

I have been searching all over the internet, without success ?

Thanks, in advance,

The patent is held by the Ferrotec Corporation.

From there you can Google till your hearts content.

So, Daiwa is not only using the Ferrotec ferrofluid, they are also using special bearings made by Ferrotec ?

I have seen a Ferrotec fluid "VSG-203A" being used on a magseal reel on YouTube . . .

Is that the specific ferrofluid Daiwa uses or is it just what someone was trying on their own ?

Thanks,

I am not familiar with that grade of Ferrofluid.

The genuine Daiwa product is Ferrotec Grade 306.

This is the video with the VSG-203A ferrofluid . . . Do you know the complete product name for the "306" fluid ?

Thanks,

300 series is a hydrocarbon base, might explain why the Daiwa stuff dries out?  APG and 300 series seems to be synth hydrocarbon vs synth ester, with the 300 allegedly having slightly better water resistance (but the same resistance to humidity?) I am still leaning towards the APG due to the high colloidal stability, ie it should hold itself together better.

Internet, mobile network, eftpos, the whole show went down for several hours twice now in the last month.

As if cyclones weren't bad enough, now this! The Perfect Storm with wind gusts up to 55 knots!

Ok, after reading this I tried researching some organic chemistry on YouTube but in the end it was all too hard.

However, I did come away with this:

Q. Why can you never trust atoms?

A. Because they make up everything!

Funny, I thought that was a boat when the video started. A little too much rain.
