Title: Shimano tiagra 50 w lrsa freespool troubleshoot
Post by: Bciciora on February 27, 2018, 12:15:55 AM
Hello,

I am having a problem with a tiagra 50w making a loud noise and having trouble spinning freely when in free spool. When I adjust the drag higher the noise stops and when I adjust the drag pre set higher it doesn't make the sound in free spool.

The sound only happens when it is in complete free spool.

Any ideas on a fix?

Thanks

Bad bearing, drag assembly rubbing ? ... Jeff

Did you recently grease the drag washer? If the grease is too thick -- it needs to be nearly rubbed off after application -- the drag washer can be thick enough to rub on the drag plate.

Good possibilty it is something with the drag. Based on the noise stopping drag is compressed. Please let us know what you find out... Jeff

Take it apart and look for loose/broken parts, or obvious rub marks.  First thing thst comes to mind is the clicker retainer is broken, and is causing it to hit the spool/ratchet plate when in freespool, or w/preset backed off.  Some other screw or another may have worked it's way free, and something is not properly seated.  This type of thing should be obvious once you take the reel apart.
