Title: When I was a young guy.
Post by: gstours on March 20, 2018, 03:51:18 AM
My good luck wife and I went halibut fishing 🎣. .it was slow,  then when the tide started running we thought maybe we were snagged on the bottom.   Then the snag started lumbering off.   We gotta fish,  I'm thinking.   Then there was some chaos,  we motor to assist.  Shoot and harpoon it after quite a tussle.
Here s our work efforts.   We kept it and distributed with our friends.   Never again.    Butt it was a fisherman dream.   You never know if you don't go,!💁🏻‍♀️

Looks like 300 pounds plus !!!!! What a beauty !!  I was on a party boat out of Gloucester Mass
"the Yankee Patriot" back in the late 70s or early 80s and watched a guy catch a 216 pound Atlantic Halibut and was amazed at the fish !!!! It took 6 of us with gaffs to get it up over the high rails !!! When the fish hit the deck flopping round you could feel the power of the fish thumping on the deck !!!  The Atlantic Halibut are pretty scarce off the New England coast but there are a few big ones every year. There are a few spots far offshore they seem pretty common. Fippennies Ledge and Cashes Ledge to name a couple places but they are 65 to 80 miles off shore so you need to sign up for distant water trips which fill up fast. The way Halibut laws are here you can only keep one fish 41" or more per trip per boat !!!!  So one fish per BOAT not per person and that's per trip not per day !!!!! I caught one 5 or 6 years ago that was truly 1/2" from the 41" mark and had to release it but that worked out well with another guy who landed a 48 pounder and was able to keep it !

Gary when you show pictures and videos of your fishing out there in the Northwest you sure do make us East Coast guys jelous !!!! Lol !! Below is my one and only "SO FAR" Atlantic Halibut and it went back for someone else to catch !!!!   John Taylor

Thanks for the kind words.  👍.   I,m sure you got big shark, swords, cod marlin, and many other fish 🐠 to fish for.   Sometimes I just think there's too many people and not enough opportunity.   Have a great day.   Weather permitting.🚣‍♀️🎣🚣‍♀️

and here I am in Magdalena Bay, Baja area,

with a flounder.

Guess, I need to travel back to Gustavus, AK for more time bait soaking time with YOU!!!

FISH ON Buddy Boy!!!!!
