G'day tunacub,
Here's Alan's tutorial on the Saltiga/Saltist 40:
http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=3951&forum_id=62 (http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=3951&forum_id=62)
Note the wrench in the last photo (bottom right), ie http://www.fullspeedfishing.com/gallery/data/500/medium/saltiga_009.jpg (http://www.fullspeedfishing.com/gallery/data/500/medium/saltiga_009.jpg).
I believe Alan's heavy duty Penn wrenches fit most Daiwas, Abus etc, ie http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=164.0 (http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=164.0)
Hope that's of some assistance.
Good luck!
Justin

I have not seen a Z model but here is some info I got off the Daiwa site.

Features:

CNC-machined one piece aluminium body
Hyper Digigear
Dual system infi nite anti-reverse
Grease impregnated multi disc drag system
Precision machined alloy spool for maximum strength
Z models feature sealed gear box
Non-set plate design. Inner parts built directly onto frame for dead on alignment
Z models feature 6 CRBB's (corrosion resistant ball bearings)
Adjustable "Quick Shift" handle on Z40 model
Automatic spool engage

The bold portion may have something to do with your problem

Here's a photo of the handle-fastening mechanism.
You just reverse the winding direction and it pops up, which allows you to adjust the length of the handle while fighting a fish.

Still no progress on finding out how to remove it, however.
When it pops up, is there a nut visible beneath?
All the best, Justin
