Title: Starting to Catch Up on DAM Quick Orders
Post by: foakes on June 12, 2018, 03:13:47 AM
Been way behind on orders for DAM Quick buildouts from scratch — using mostly new parts.

Finally starting to make progress on the backlog after some family and tree clearing issues for fire safety.

The trees have taken about 3 years out of our life.  Family issues are ongoing — and somewhat manageable at this point.

Finished up (4) reels for Dennis (Farmer56).

A 265 Microlite, 110 Microlite, 220, and a 221 high speed.

These reels are from 50 to about 58 years old —

These are made of about 85% new old stock parts out of the parts bins.  Every part inside is as shiny as the exterior parts.

Many more to come —

Best,

Fred

3 yrs.! Dude! If there's ever a rip-roarin fire headed your way, maybe the damage won't be as bad, or hopefully non-existant. Also, thinka alla firewood you've produced for folks. Family problems are the tuffest thing for me to deal with & prayin always seems ta help.

I guess I don't know what "renos" are, Tommy.

However, when I build these reels using new old stock parts out of the bins — they get new frames, rotors, sideplates, and switch-axle housings.  These came with a jumping fish from the factory — so that is how come all of the frames have a fish.  It is not a decal.  It is an aluminum cutout with a fish painted onto it — and it is glued onto the frame from the factory.  These have not been repainted, they are as original as the complete reels from the factory in Gusenhauzen, Germany — because that is where they came from.  The frames still have the original hang-tag and stem sticker.

Dennis is left-handed, and he reels with his right hand.  So all of the reels have been set up with a right hand crank — as per his wishes.

Best,

Fred

On our parcel, and another up the hill from us that we have assumed written responsibility for from a safety and aesthetic angle — there were 180 Ponderosa Pines that were beetle killed.  Average was 3' at the base, 110' tall.  Some were 24" — many were over 4' and 160' tall.

This is the last stacked landing that we have staged.  It started out as 72 logs that were 16' 4".  As of now, it is completely sliced to 16" rounds, and nearly all split into firewood that we are giving to those who need it.  We still have 35 large trees to go that are still standing.  Fortunately, we still have a great population of cedar, fir, oak, and manzanita, and a few pines that had plenty of underground water due to springs.

The Central Sierra Nevadas have lost 160M trees in 3 years.

Best,

Fred

Thanks for the clarification, Fred. I figured that when you talk about repaints you had some NOS decals to stick on them, too. I guess when you referenced 85% I thought you were "reno"vating old frames, bodies, etc. I've got a 220N that looks near new that's missing both the stripe and fish.  :)

I drove thru Sonora and Miwuk last weekend. It's sad to see so much devastation! The shear volume of trees that have been cut and the still standing dead timber is crazy.

Very nice group of reels.  Try to get something like that from a sporting goods or bigbox store.  Try to get ONE reel out of the group from a sporting goods or bigbox store.  I tip my hat to farmer56 for his good taste in equipment.
