Title: Penn 209 Spool Sticks
Post by: EHSportsman on August 19, 2011, 10:26:47 PM
I am a newcomer to this excellent site.....and have what I am sure is a real beginner's question. (I have worked successfully on spinners; never conventionals.) Penn 209 new to me - handle turns freely as does spool for quite a few turns and then handle and spool will not turn at all. All else seems to work: free spooling, drags, etc. I would like to address this problem first, if possible, so as to be able to use it........(but have seen the excellent tutorial on breaking down and refurbishing the reel completely and will undertake that as well.) Thanks, Steven

sounds like damage to the worm.  if that is the case, sometimes you can take the cutting wheel of a dremel and re-cut the channel of the worm.  other times you are better off just replace it and the pawl.  take a look.  the damage should be obvious, if that is the case.  alan
