Title: Flea Market 25 GLS
Post by: nelz on August 23, 2018, 07:55:55 PM
Just picked up an old 25 GLS at the flea market. Been wanting a small lever drag, so decided to take a chance, even though it was binding pretty bad and felt rough.

As expected, the pinion bearing needs replacing, not a biggie. But, alas, the gears also are shot, especially the pinion. It cranks very rough and grinds even after cleaning. Sounds like a big diesel engine!

So, given the condition, is this reel worth repairing?

I like the two I have. dunno what your cost was to buy, but if you can scrounge some parts and come out less than $50 total I'd say go for it. You might see if anyone here has those or check JDL on the auction. The graphite reels can clean up amazingly well.....
